Tipping, what are the guide-lines in Amsterdam?
Service is generally incl. in Amsterdam, but if the service is good,
TIP. And of course bad service deserves only a smile
Packing: what should I bring?
As little as possible! Seriously, there are few elevators in Amsterdam &
remember, even fewer porters. Be flexible, bring an umbrella (and trench
coat with a liner in winter), and always have a sweater or jacket available.
Comfortable walking shoes are a must.

When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?
The best times are spring-late March to late April, when the tulips come
up. Actually, Amsterdam is special the entire year round!
Where can we park the car?
Close by Clemens Hotel is a good covered parking, EuroPark, see the
location map.
Where can we rent a bicycle?
Once you are checked in & settled in at Clemens, we are only too happy
to advise you on what to do, where to do it, what & where to eat, etc, etc.
My health is poor, what if I need a doctor?
Clemens is affiliated with a Tourist Doctor we can call if necessary
But if I get ill in the middle of the night? What then?
Don't panic, even when the reception is closed, there is always someone
in the hotel. Just knock on reception door
I am vegetarian, will I starve?
No, definitely not! Amsterdam has many restaurants, & almost all cater
to vegetarians
I am in a wheelchair, is this a problem for you?
Unfortunately yes. So sorry. We will not be able to accommodate you as
Clemens is situated on from the 1st floor up. However, I can direct you to a
site designed for people in chairs.
I do not speak Dutch, so sorry! Problem?
Definitely not! Almost everyone in Holland speaks English.
My plane arrives early, can I check in at 07.00 am?
Not unless you have reserved the room from the night before. You are
welcome to deposit your bags & have a coffee on the breakfast balcony before
you go out & explore.
What time can I check in to my room?
Check-in is 14.00 hours, Check-out is 11.00 hours.
We are Lesbians, & prefer a Double bed. Is this a problem?
Not at all! You are very welcome. Check out the links to some fun Gay
clubs.
Are you gay yourself?
No, I am not; but bear in mind that in Amsterdam we do not categorise or
judge people by their sexual preferences
We usually party the entire night, will there be someone to let us in?
We issue guests with the front door key. For this you pay a deposit
(refundable) of about $ 20. Just don't make a noise when you come home,
please!
What time can I check in to my room?
Check-in is 14.00 hours, Check-out is 11.00 hours.
Can I have breakfast in my room? Is it included in the price?
No and yes!
I am allergic to feather pillows.
Me too! So none of the rooms have feather pillows!
My train leaves very late on the evening of my departure. What can I do
with my luggage?
We will store it for you after check-out, not to worry.
We will be returning to Amsterdam, after our first visit, can we store
luggage with you for a few weeks?
Unfortunately not for a few weeks, we have limited storage. However
there are lockers at the station & airport
You advertise mini-fridge in all the rooms. What do you have in them?
Not a thing! The idea is that you can fill the fridge yourself. There is
an excellent supermarket close by, more fun for you, try out the different
Dutch cheeses, etc.
I really really need an elevator, can you organize something?
I wish! But Clemens is situated in a Monument Building, so we are not
permitted to make any structural changes. Have a look at the Disabled links.
I have reserved a Budget Single room. Do I need to bring my own towels?
Only if you wish. We provide towels & soap also in the Budget rooms.
I have reserved next February one of your Budget rooms. Can I pay with
credit card?
No, read answer below.
I want to stay in Amsterdam & pay as little as possible! Help!
Take advantage of our Budget rooms, they are very good value for money.
However, in order to keep these Budget prices really Budget, you do need to
pay in CASH EURO'S not credit card.
I have reserved a room (I think) but have not had reply from you. Is it
confirmed?
No, without a written confirmation, your reservation is not valid.
Please contact me.
I have sent you my credit card details to reserve the room. But you say
the Budget rooms have to be paid in cash. Why do you need my credit card
details then?
In order to hold the room for you, this is the reason. We do not use the
card, unless you do not show up or cancel at the last minute.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation Policy is 7 days from arrival, no charges.

With only 9 rooms, this makes sense to me.
Ok, so what happens if I cancel 1 day before arrival?
We will charge you 1 nights stay.
But it wasn't my fault, the airline cancelled! Not fair!
You should be able to claim these monies back through the airline/travel
agent
I am not happy at sending my credit card thru the internet!
Not a problem, just phone or fax your details to us.
I want to surprise my girlfriend and have the room filled with flowers &
chocolates when we arrive. Can you help?
With pleasure, what a romantic gesture! Just let us know your budget for
flowers, chocs, & it will be done for you.

My goodness! I am sorry to hear this. Unfortunately we will not refund
you any money, please contact me as to why you hated Clemens.
In the future, if you are unhappy with your hotel, Clemens or any other
hotel, please contact the manager immediately with your complaints. Most
hotels will do their utmost best to help you, either with another room or
alternative accommodation
What is the difference between Budget & DeLuxe?
Size, & of course price! Deluxe Rooms are spacious rooms, with private
shower/wc.
Budget Rooms are smaller. with shared shower/wc.
However all the rooms have TV, Tel, Safe, mini-Fridge, Hair Dryer, electric
fan & Free Internet Connections
What makes Clemens Hotel Special, like you advertise?

Will Clemens Hotel wash & iron my clothes?
No, I am not your mother! But we will direct you to a nearby laundry
where you can leave your washing to be done.
You are online in your rooms, but I don't travel with my laptop.
Not a problem. You can rent a laptop at reception for 8 euro
TV in the room, but we do not speak Dutch...
We have cable TV with many languages.
Will you pick us up from the airport?
No, have a look at the Location Page & see the directions, very easy, &
quick.
We are coming to Amsterdam to try out the drugs!
Not in Clemens you aren't! We frown on the use of drugs in the hotel.
What you do outside is your own business….but think carefully about drug
use, please.
I want to visit the Red Light area, is it safe?
Yes. But please do not take photos in the red light area or you & your
camera will end up swimming in a canal.

Can I visit your Queen?
No, but you can visit the Queens Palace which you can see from the
balcony of Clemens. Well worth a visit.
How safe is Amsterdam? My daughter is visiting this summer & I am rather
anxious!
Amsterdam is as safe as any big city. The usual rules apply, do not walk
in any unlit alleys, leave your money & passport in your room in the safe,
watch out for pickpockets.
How safe is Clemens Hotel?
When I tell you that both my daughters help out in the hotel, I need say
no more! We are very high on security & have security camera's, so smile
when you ring the front door bell as we can see you!
I work for a travel agency / fly for an airline. Can I have discount?
Are you going to give me a discount? No, we do not give discounts,
sorry.
Is the Zoo close by?
Indeed it is, just 10 minutes with the tram 9.
I will be on a working holiday & need a desk to work at.
All the rooms have a table & chairs. Alternatively we can direct you to
the Public Library close by on the Prinsengracht, or the University, where
you can also study. Good place to meet new people!
If I get lucky & meet the love of my life, can I bring her / him home to
my hotel room to get better acquainted?...
Not a chance! All guests need to be registered in the interests of
security. (ours, and of course your own).
Do you have a minimum stay policy?
Yes, in weekends we have a policy of minimum 3 nights, incl. Sunday
night. However, there are exceptions to the rule, so don't be shy to ask.
How about holiday periods?
Again, Clemens has the same policy as most of the Amsterdam Hotels in
that on Long Weekends, Easter, New Year, etc, we have a policy of a minimum
nights stay.
Do you put your prices up on Holidays?
No, our prices remain the same the entire year round
Do you charge more for your rooms with balcony?
No, we do not charge extra for rooms with private balcony.
Can you guarantee that I will get the room I chose from the photos on
your site?
No, as clearly stated on our site, we will do our best, but can never
guarantee that you will get a particular room
What time do you serve Breakfast?
Served between 07.30 & 10.30 am.
What does it cost?

Do you have an iron & ironing board I can use?
Yes, we do indeed
I have been reading many reviews on Clemens Hotel & they all say the same
wonderful things about you! Are you for real? And how do I know you didn't
write them yourself?
What can I say! No, I do not write my own reviews. Reviews on Clemens
Hotel are to be found on many different sites & the webmasters are able to
check the ID of the reviewer by checking the IP addresses of where the mails
are coming from.
In fact I even had 1 website throw out many reviews that were written on
Clemens Hotel as the webmaster had not built a "ID " check in his site and
didn't trust these reviews as they were apparently all too too positive
about Clemens Hotel! He has subsequently built in this check. I enclose the

But now you have your own review page….sooooo, how can we trust you not
to write your own reviews?!
Ha! You are really going to have to trust me on this one! I promise to
leave all reviews both good & bad, on my site.
I have been in the hotel business 20 years and know that you cannot please
everyone. So yes, of course I can expect some less positive reviews, also on
my own site.
However, healthy criticism can do no harm.
